| Delicious baking adventure results. Yum! |
So I decided to do just that. Here both ingredients are thawing on my new baking mat. We got it to help us transfer pizza dough to our pizza stone, but since we made pizza recently, I didn't want to wait a few weeks to test it out.
After they both were thawed, I rolled the pastry out a little bit more, then spread the blueberries evenly over the sheet.
Next, I drizzled honey all over it. Not sure how much I used. Definitely more than two tablespoons. I kept criss-crossing the honey until it looked good. And when my husband chimed in that it was enough, I added a little bit more just to be safe. You can never be too careful.
I wasn't sure if the honey would make it sweet enough, so I added a sprinkling of sugar, too. It wound up being a good level for us; not too sweet where you have to brush your teeth afterwards, but enough of a hint of sweetness to feel like a treat. More sugar could easily be added depending upon one's preferences.
I then rolled it all up, sliced it into eighths, and brushed a beaten egg over it, to help make the pastry turn golden.
Here are the swirls ready to go into the oven. I baked them at 350 for 10 minutes; then I noticed the pastry container recommended 400 degrees, so I turned the oven up and baked it for 5-10 minutes more.
The juice from the thawed blueberries ran a bit more than I expected, so next time I might leave them frozen. Here are the blueberry swirls fresh out of the oven. (Taken after we and our dinner guests tried them out. I didn't want to interrupt the eating just so I could take photos.)
They were quite delicious and would be great served with some vanilla ice cream or even extra honey drizzled over top. I reheated the remaining ones for breakfast the next day, and they tasted just as good the day after.
Don't they look so yummy? I might have to go get some more puff pastry and blueberries this week.
Hope this inspires you to create your own recipe!
